Our Intermediate courses are designed for students who already have a foundation in Italian and want to speak more naturally, understand more, and feel comfortable in real conversations.
Choose the level that best matches where you are in your Italian journey:
B1 - Build confidence. Tell your story. Join the conversation.
At B1, you’ll move beyond simple sentences and learn to communicate more independently. You’ll talk about experiences, describe events, make plans, and express your opinions in everyday situations.
What you’ll learn:
Past tenses and storytelling • Future tense • Direct and indirect pronouns • Combined pronouns • Comparatives and superlatives • Conditional tense • Introduction to the subjunctive • Vocabulary for everyday life, travel, culture, and social situations
B1 is for you if: you can already have a basic conversation in Italian, but you still need time to find the right words and build more complex sentences.
B2 - Speak with greater fluency. Express your ideas. Go beyond everyday Italian.
At B2, you’ll take your Italian to a more sophisticated level. Conversations become longer and more spontaneous as you learn to explain your point of view, discuss different topics, and express ideas with greater accuracy and nuance.
What you’ll learn:
Subjunctive mood • Conditional and hypothetical sentences • Advanced pronouns • Relative pronouns • Passive voice • Impersonal constructions • Advanced use of past tenses • Reported speech • Complex connectors • Idiomatic expressions and natural vocabulary.
B2 is for you if: you can already maintain a conversation in Italian and want to become more fluent, precise, and natural when expressing yourself.
Italian Intermediate classes are offered during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall quarters.
