When you arrive at an Italian hotel, the receptionist might say:

  • Ha una prenotazione?

  • A che nome?

Notice the formal Lei form.

When responding, you can say:

  • Sì, ho prenotato a nome Rossi.

  • Vorrei fare il check-in.

If there’s a problem, you might need:

  • C’è stato un errore.

  • Non funziona l’aria condizionata.

🔎Grammar Hint: Formal “Lei” and Agreement

In formal situations, Italians use Lei (third person singular).

Example:

  • Lei desidera qualcosa?

  • Mi può aiutare?

Notice:

  • The verb agrees in third person singular

  • Pronouns remain the same (mi, la, le)

Mastering the formal register is essential for sounding advanced.
