If you truly want to hear authentic Italian, go to a local market (il mercato).

Markets are vibrant, loud, colorful, and full of interaction.

You’ll hear:

  • Quanto costa?

  • Me ne dà un chilo?

  • È fresco?

Markets teach you practical Italian: numbers, quantities, polite forms.

They also show how Italians negotiate gently and interact socially.

Grammar Hint

Notice the polite form:

  • Mi dà un chilo?

Instead of dammi, which is informal, Italians often use the third person singular for politeness:

  • Lei mi dà?

  • Mi può aiutare?

Also notice ne in:

  • Me ne dà un chilo?

Here, ne replaces “of it.”

Small structures like this elevate your Italian immediately.

If you'd like to practice real-life Italian for shopping, travel, and daily interaction, that’s exactly what we simulate in lessons.
