If you ever visit Italy in February, you’ll hear certain words repeated everywhere.

Understanding them makes you feel immediately more connected.

For example:

Maschera – mask

Costume – costume

Sfilata – parade

Carro – float

Dolci di Carnevale – Carnival sweets

But beyond vocabulary, Carnival has an atmosphere. Italians might say:

“Che confusione!” (What chaos!)“Che divertimento!” (So much fun!)

These exclamations are part of real spoken Italian.

I always encourage students to learn words in context. Imagine yourself there. Picture the music, the colors, the crowd. Language becomes easier when it’s linked to images.

If you’d like to build vocabulary in a way that feels alive and practical, I’d love to help.
