“Fare una Decisione” — The Problem with Direct Translation

English speakers rely heavily on “to do” and “to make.”

In Italian, we don’t always use fare the same way.

Many Americans say:

❌ Fare una decisione.

But Italians say:

✅ Prendere una decisione.

Why This Happens

In English:

• Make a decision

• Take a shower

In Italian, verb combinations are different:

• Prendere una decisione

• Fare la doccia

• Fare i compiti

  
  

These combinations are called collocations.
