There is one word that students often avoid for months: ne.

They understand it when reading. They hear it in conversations. But when it’s time to speak, they freeze.

And I understand why. Ne feels abstract at first.

I usually introduce ne in a very simple way. Instead of explaining everything at once, I start with one situation: replacing “of it” or “about it.”

For example:

Parli di politica?Sì, ne parlo spesso.

Here, ne replaces di politica. Instead of repeating the whole phrase, we use this small word.

Another very common example:

Quanti libri hai? Ne ho tre.

This use is beautiful because it shows how Italian avoids repetition. Once you start noticing ne, you realize how often Italians rely on it.

The secret with ne is not memorization — it’s exposure and guided practice. When students begin using it naturally, even in simple sentences, their Italian suddenly sounds more fluid and advanced.

And if you’d like to practice it step by step without feeling overwhelmed, that’s exactly how I introduce it in my lessons.

👉 Book your Italian lesson and become comfortable with the small words that make a big difference.
